Description:
This is the second of two sessions organized for this year's leadership symposium. The focus of both is rebuilding our academic communities as we reemerge from the COVID-19 pandemic. What strategies can help us regain a sense of community and rebuild momentum after such a long period of relative isolation? What lessons learned during the pandemic do we want to develop further in the future in teaching, research, service, and governance? What might be ahead in terms of shifting student numbers, staff and budget cuts, or efforts to shift more of our curricula online?
As geographers, how can we use concepts such as place, space, mobility, and distance to help understand and respond to the changes that are underway? And, in addition to the pandemic, how has the racial reckoning, on and off campus, intersected with our responses to the pandemic?
The symposium will involve both small and large group discussions and panels spread across two 80-minute sessions.
