Abstract
Alley Revitalization and Activation in Downtown Puyallup will connect downtown retail and restaurant core with Pioneer Park, a large park which is flanked by a music stage, library, and senior activity center. Revitalization and activation could include elements such as lighting, art, seating or businesses opening up to the space, wayfinding signage, or any other number of items. The goal would be for the alley to help draw visitors to the park into the main retail and restaurant core.
This alley has become a landfill for the surrounding businesses for many years. And the presence of a large garbage can, and itsdarkness has not created any attraction for citizens to pass through. Also, the narrow and limited horizon in this alley has made it more difficult to design and reorganize this alley.
Is it possible to solve the problems of this alley by designing chairs or encouraging people to sit and eat? Despite important landmarks such as Pioneer Park and West PioneerPark, why should citizens use that alley to sit? With the implementation of such plans, will not a new dilemma
be created for the surrounding businesses? Or how these new landmarks can represent the architecture, culture, and identity of Puyallup as a land of the indigenous. How can new
businesses adapt to the implementation and construction of each new landmark? These constraints make design work more difficult to implement in an urban environment.
My model was inspired by the style of Persian Paradise Garden.
